Licensing

RazorSQL is licensed per user. Each licensed user may use RazorSQL on multiple computers and operating systems. License codes purchased via the above link unlock all versions of RazorSQL (Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux / Unix).

Licenses include free upgrades for the maintenance period after the date of purchase. The licenses do not expire and do not need to be renewed for continued use of RazorSQL.

Licenses are not completely backwards compatible. Older versions of RazorSQL may not accept newer licenses. If an older license is needed to run an older version, please contact support.

After submitting your payment, you will be shown a license code that can be entered into trial versions to convert them to full versions. An email will also be sent to the email address you provide FastSpring. This email will contain the license code that can be used to convert the trial versions to full versions. Connecting RazorSQL to Salesforce.com

RazorSQL from Richardson Software is an administration tool that lets you query, edit, browse and manage databases.

RazorSQL is free, DBMS independent and cross-platform: running on Windows, OS X, Linux, and UNIX (Solaris) machines. RazorSQL includes the following features:

  • Visual tools for creating and modifying database objects.
  • Tools for importing and exporting data in various file formats.
  • Search tools for navigating database objects and data.
  • Tools for building SQL queries and generating SQL and DDL.
  • A SQL formatting tool.
  • SQL history tracking.
  • A SQL favourites tool for storing frequently used SQL statements.

RazorSQL can connect to databases by using either JDBC or ODBC.

The Salesforce.com ODBC Driver enables you to work with Salesforce.com data for in RazorSQL.

The Salesforce.com ODBC Driver is available to download from the Easysoft web site:

  1. Download the Windows Salesforce.com ODBC Driver. (Registration required.)
  2. Install and license the Salesforce.com ODBC Driver on the machine where SAS is installed.

Before you can use the Salesforce.com ODBC Driver to connect RazorSQL to Salesforce.com, you need to configure an ODBC data source. An ODBC data source stores the connection details for the target database (e.g. Salesforce.com) and the ODBC driver that is required to connect to it (e.g. the Salesforce.com ODBC driver).

If you are using the 64-bit version of RazorSQL, configure a data source in the 64-bit ODBC Administrator, which is located in the Windows Control Panel.

If you are using the 32-bit version of RazorSQL configure a data source in the 32-bit ODBC Administrator (%WINDIR%\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe).

To create a Salesforce.com ODBC Driver data source:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • To create a User data source, in the User DSN tab, choose Add.

      –Or–

    • To create a System data source, choose the System DSN tab, and then choose Add.
  2. In the Create New Data Source dialog box, choose Easysoft ODBC-Salesforce Driver, and then choose Finish.
  3. Complete the Easysoft ODBC-Salesforce Driver DSN Setup dialog box:

    User NameThe name of your Salesforce.com user. For example, myuser@mydomain.com.
    PasswordThe password for your Salesforce.com user.
    Token The security token for your Salesforce.com user, if required.

    To find out whether you need to supply a security token, choose the Test button. If the connection attempt fails with an error which contains , you need to supply one.

    Salesforce.com emails the security token to the email address associated with your Salesforce.com user account. If you have not received a security token, you can regenerate it. Salesforce.com will then email the new security token to you. To regenerate your security token, log in to Salesforce.com and then choose Setup from the user menu. Search for "security token" in the Quick Find box. Click Reset Security Token in the Reset Security Token page. When you receive the token in your email client, copy it and then paste it into the Token field.

  4. Use the Test button to verify that you can successfully connect to Salesforce.com.

Follow these steps to analyse some Salesforce.com data in RazorSQL.

  1. In RazorSQL, choose Connections > Add Connection Profile.

    The Connection Wizard starts.

  2. In the Connection Profiles list, choose Other. Choose Continue.
  3. In the Connection Type pane, choose ODBC.
  4. In the Profile Name box, enter "Salesforce".
  5. Chose your Salesforce.com ODBC data source from the Datasource Name list.
  6. Choose Connect.
  7. In the Salesforce pane, expand the tree until you expose the list of tables.
  8. Right-click the Account table. From the pop-up menu, choose View Contents.

Top SQL Tools for 2020: Part Four

Databases are everywhere nowadays, and with good reason. As such, there are a lot of tools you can use to work with them. This is the final installment of our four series Top SQL Tools for 2020 blog.

FlySpeed SQL Query

FlySpeed’s SQL Query is yet another universal database tool at your disposal, and while it’s free for non-commercial use, commercial users will have to get a license to use it. Prices start at $39/month per user. It’s a Windows-only app, too, so Mac and Linux users don’t have it available just yet.

FlySpeed connects to all modern database servers, and has a visual query designer, lets you continue work exactly where you left off, has a portable version, and more. If you’re an educator, they also provide a free version for you and your students to use.

TablePlus

TablePlus also offers a modern GUI tool that works with most relational databases in the market, and is available for MacOX and Windows. Its most attractive offerings are how fast it runs, a bevy of security features, customizable appearance, and a UI that’s incredibly easy to use. See a video on how it works here.

The documentation is also very well done, and has 24-hour support.

datapine SQL Editor

Still on the realm of paid SQL Editor tools, you can also choose Datapine’s SQL Editor. As with other paid SQL tools we’ve seen, it has a graphical interface that lets you build SQL queries without knowing how to code, generates charts and tables in real-time, easy set-up, drag-and-drop interface, works on mobile, automatic SQL code generation, and much more.

You can take a look at their demo dashboards here to have an idea of what they can do. In terms of pricing, it starts at $299/month.

Toad for SQL Server

Toad for SQL Server is a paid admin tool that works with pretty much every type of database in the market. Its prices start at $799, and they have an interactive demo you can check out.

As for features, it offers many, as one would expect of paid software. It includes compare and sync for easy identification of syncing servers, schemas, and data; group execution for when you need scripts to be simultaneously executed in different servers; a log reader to roll back transactions without needing to restore them from a backup; a job manager and SQL optimizer for managing database loads and automated query rewrites and optimization; performance testing; data modeling; automation of repetitive tasks; and more.

Razor SQL

The last tool we’ll be covering is Razor SQL, another paid universal tool that starts at $99.99/year per user. It works on Windows, MacOS, Linux, and Solaris, and has been tested on over 40 databases—meaning it works with pretty much all the popular ones on the market.

It boasts advanced connection features such as built-in support for many databases, a great SQL and Database editor, and many SQL tools like a multi-table Database Data Search Tool, Edit Table, exports in XML, and more. Programming Logic: Execute code based on conditions.


The If Condition

C# lets you execute code based on conditions.

To test a condition you use an if statement. The if statement returns true or false, based on your test:

  • The if statement starts a code block
  • The condition is written inside parenthesis
  • The code inside the braces is executed if the test is true

Example

The Else Condition

An if statement can include an else condition.

The else condition defines the code to be executed if the condition is false.

Example

@{var price=20;}

else

  <p>The price is OK.</p>

Note: In the example above, if the first condition is true, it will be executed. The else condition covers "everything else".



The Else If Condition

Multiple conditions can be tested with an else if condition:

In the example above, if the first condition is true, it will be executed.

If not, then if the next condition is true, this condition will be executed.

You can have any number of else if conditions.

If none of the if and else if conditions are true, the last else block (without a condition) covers "everything else".


Switch Conditions

A switch block can be used to test a number of individual conditions:

The test value (day) is in parentheses. Each individual test condition has a case value that ends with a colon, and any number of code lines ending with a break statement. If the test value matches the case value, the code lines are executed.

A switch block can have a default case (default:) for "everything else" that runs if none of the cases are true.
